By Olivia Wynkoop, Bay City News Foundation SAN MATEO, CA — Police arrested a San Mateo man involved in a sexual assault case in May against a legally blind woman, the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office announced on Thursday. On May 5, the victim was walking to work near Stevens Creek Boulevard in Cupertino when a man approached her and tried to flirt with her. The woman declined and continued to make her way to work, according to police records. Later in the day, the man approached the woman at a public parking lot, held her against her will and sexually assaulted her. Police say the suspect followed the victim before this encounter. When a witness approached the man, he ran on foot and fled to his silver Scion XB, according to the police. Upon further investigation, police identified the suspect as 29-year-old Bernard Mejia-Ortiz.
