Description

Press release from City of Moorpark: December 2, 2021 The City of Moorpark is pleased to announce it is now seeking construction bids for its highly-anticipated Princeton Avenue Improvement Project.  Construction bids are due on January 14, 2022, and the project plans and specifications are available on the City's website at www.moorparkca.gov/bids.  Mayor Janice Parvin is very excited about reaching this milestone, noting: "Nothing makes me happier to say these words that Moorpark has been longing to hear for years: We are out to bid for Princeton Avenue!" The project will improve Princeton Avenue between Spring Road and Condor Drive (south).   Although Princeton Avenue will still have one vehicle lane in each direction when the project is completed, the roadway will feature wider lanes, a straightened alignment, left-turn lanes, bike lanes, and a sidewalk on the south side.  To make space for the street improvements, a large retaining wall will be constructed on the north side of the street to hold back the slope. Daniel Kim, City Engineer/Public Works Director, is now looking ahead to opening the bids in January 14 and awarding a construction contract in February.  Construction will then begin as soon as the contractor can mobilize.  Construction of the project is expected to take 24 months to complete, largely due to the need to relocate utilities and to construct retaining walls to make space for the project improvements.   While Princeton Avenue will ultimately be much safer and smoother for pedestrians, bicyclists, and commuters, the construction will have local impacts and cause some periodic traffic delays.  Kim is already making plans to keep the public informed throughout the construction process: "We know Princeton Avenue is a vital connection between eastern and western Moorpark, as well as for the residents in the Virginia Colony neighborhood.   We are committed to ensuring that the residents and commuters will know of any lane or road closures ahead of time," said Kim. More information about the project, including the project history and before-and-after renderings of what Princeton Avenue will look like are available on the City's website at www.moorparkca.gov/princeton.  This press release was produced by the City of Moorpark.
