This Elmhurst Business May Get $70K From City Fund

ELMHURST, IL — An Elmhurst business is poised to get nearly $70,000 from a city account to pay for improvements to its facade. On Monday, the City Council is set to vote on giving the money to Elmhurst Dentistry For Kids. The business is now at 311 N. York St., but plans to move into the old Midwest Open MRI building at 323 N. York St., according to a city memo. The money would come from the city's North York tax increment financing district. The money in the account is generated from the growth in property tax income in the district. Under a city program, businesses are eligible for up to $800 a linear foot of improved frontage. The Dentistry for Kids project is expected to include siding, awnings and painting. Last month, a City Council committee unanimously voted for giving the grant to Dentistry for Kids. It said the project demonstrates the spirit of the facade program, which is to spur economic development on North York.
