Description

Press release from the City of Tulsa: 12/2/2021 Curbside recycling will restart soon in Tulsa, with Tulsa Recycle & Transfer almost ready to resume operations. Beginning Jan. 31, 2022, customers need to be sure that their trash is in the gray cart and their recycling is in the blue cart at 5 a.m. on their pickup day. Refuse and recycling will be collected separately starting on that day. Tulsa Recycle & Transfer has installed a new system after contamination from a lithium-ion battery caused a fire there in April 2021. Since then, Tulsa Recycle & Transfer has been closed and the City of Tulsa has sent both trash and recycling to the Covanta Waste for Energy Plant. As recycling resumes in Tulsa, residents should remember to avoid contamination and put only recyclables in the blue cart and all trash in the gray cart. The City's educational campaign "Recycle This, Not That" highlights items that should be included in the recycling stream including aluminum and steel cans, paper and cardboard, plastic bottles and jugs, glass jars and bottles. For more information about the City's trash and recycling program and what can and can't be recycled visit: www.tulsarecycles.com All batteries should be recycled through the M.e.t. and specialized battery operators/stores. M.e.t. Depot locations can be found at https://metrecycle.comĀ  This Jan. 31 date for separate collection of recycling is different from the December date announced in this month's City Life utility bill newsletter, which had been printed far in advance. This press release was produced by the City of Tulsa. The views expressed here are the author's own.
