Description
UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A blaze ignited on the Upper West Side Friday morning that sent 78 firefighters to a 19-story high-rise building.
The flames began around 10:58 a.m. on the first floor of a building at 55 West End Avenue, at the corner of 62nd Street, the FDNY told Patch.
Firefighters arrived at the building four minutes after the first call came in. The flames were in the ductwork of the Upper West Side high-rise, making it difficult to extinguish all areas of the fire, the FDNY said.
No injuries were reported, and the cause of the blaze is under investigation.
The 55 West End address is known as the West End Towers South Building and is across the street from the new Brooklyn Fare market.
