BIRMINGHAM, AL — A Tuscaloosa will serve 15 years in prison for trafficking methamphetamine, according to an announcement from the office of U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Special Agent in Charge Mickey French. Click here to subscribe to our free Tuscaloosa Daily newsletter and breaking news alert Darius Deshaun Rozzell, 27, was sentenced Tuesday by a federal judge to 180 months in prison for trafficking methamphetamine and a concurrent 120 months for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Escalona's office said Rozzell entered a guilty plea to the charges in August. The West Alabama Narcotics Task Force reportedly executed a search warrant on Oct. 16, 2019 at Rozzell's residence, where they recovered a set of digital scales, drug paraphernalia, and approximately 74 grams of methamphetamine. The plea agreement also said that while searching Rozzell's roommate's bedroom, agents located a rifle and Rozzell later admitted to having access to the rifle. He confessed to investigators that he shot the rifle in the weeks prior to the search. "Methamphetamine continues to plague our communities," Escalona said. "Removing highly addictive drugs from our communities helps reduce the violence and serious public health consequences associated with these deadly substances.
