Description

A brilliant way to celebrate the season. Join Mirna Y. Cabrera, artistic director, conduct the beautiful baroque music of Esteban Salas Colonial Consort Presents Una nave mercantil (A Mercantile Ship) is the theme of an evening of Cuban colonial villancicos composed by Havana criollo Esteban Salas during his tenure as chapelmaster in the Santiago de Cuba cathedral (1764-1803). Salas, a Cuban Baroque cathedral composer who is regarded as the first significant composer responsible for putting art music in the Cuban consciousness during the colonial period, deserves mention in the canon of Latin American Baroque colonial repertoire. His legacy impacted subsequent generations of cathedral composers in Santiago and the rest of Cuba. Colonial Consort provides an authentic musical experience for the family in the greater Miami area during the holidays. This group seeks to perform for our community Latin American colonial compositions, using historically informed interpretation and instrumentation, bringing back the sounds of our homeland from centuries gone past. Our December 2021 concert series will bring our audiences two performances featuring 7 villancicos and cantadas as they were composed for and heard during the Christmas seasons in the Santiago de Cuba cathedral of the late eighteenth century. Music in Miami collaborates with local professional musicians providing South Florida an extraordinary and diverse musical experience through performance, blending original composition and unique exposition from a broad array of genres.  The ensemble performs the highest standard of classical music for people of all ages and economic backgrounds.  Music in Miami is a not for profit organization.
