Description

Come indulge in #SelfCareSunday & enjoy self-expression at our community Craft Workshop! We are finally back to offering monthly themed #SelfCareSunday Craft Workshops in person to encourage a healthy mental relationship with self-expression and applied art in a safe and conscious environment. At Unique Union, Inc., we have always believed that self-care is a positive habit and we use DIY projects in our creative community as a way to "put in the work" that is needed to maintain our emotional well-being. Our workshops are held in the Marshall Heights community of Ward 7 SE, Washington, DC-- an area with a rich local history, at the Capitol View Neighborhood Library. This DC Public Library is only steps away from Benning Road Metrorail Station. November's theme is Self Care + Clarity. This workshop is all about connecting with nature and bringing its elements into your everyday environment, improving your mood, promoting creativity, while you enjoy making self-care a daily ritual with very little effort. We will show you how to make your very own floral bath bombs with natural items! The bath bomb was invented in 1989 by Lush Cosmetics co-founder Mo Constantine. Working from her shed in England, Constantine was inspired to create her 'Aqua Sizzlers' (which would later become 'Bath Bombs') after becoming intrigued by Alka-Seltzer tablets. A bath bomb adds emollients and softeners to your bath's water that moisturize and indulge your skin. No matter what your skin type, the beneficial ingredients in bath bombs leave it soft, supple, and silky. Yes, it'll cleanse your skin, but the ingredients inside will also pamper and soothe it. If you’re taking your bath in the morning, you’ll want to opt for an energizing scent like citrus. It wakes up tired skin, wakes up a sleepy mind, and helps you face the challenges of the day. If you’re taking your bath in the evening, consider calming, relaxing scents like lavender. You’ll love the way it helps you relax in the bath and drift off to sleep in bed. The first 5 tickets to these workshops are FREE, space is limited and we accept suggested donations of $15 per craft item -- to keep future #SelfCareSunday Craft Workshop attendance free of charge for local, underserved individuals on a journey to maintain their mental health through creative well-being. Save your space today! We follow all CDC and DCPL guidelines, including mask requirements and room ventilation. We will have light refreshments available and craft instruction will begin at 2 pm. Visit UniqueUnion.org for more details or click HERE to donate. The Unique Union, Inc. is a local gathering place at the intersection of applied art, urban culture, mental wellness, and creative community in Ward 7 SE Washington, DC. We formed in September 2019 as a not-for-profit organization to provide a safe place where creatives of all abilities are encouraged to develop their full expressive potential through art. We are offering our dynamic, constantly evolving and monthly-themed #SelfCareSunday Craft Workshop program to encourage a healthy mental relationship with self expression and visual art in a safe and conscious environment.  We are working to facilitate local connections through guided art therapy and art-as-therapy practices in a trauma-informed, group setting, to ultimately provide a therapeutic, inclusive and creative environment for our inner city community.
