Wayland Police Warn Of Rising Car Prowls

WAYLAND, MA — Wayland police are reminding residents to be mindful about securing vehicles amid a rise in car prowls in the region. According to Wayland police, nearby towns have seen an increase in vehicle break-ins. Over the weekend, car prowlers targeted vehicles along the Route 30 corridor in Wayland. In some cases, whole cars have been stolen after owners left keys inside, police said. "In most cases, vehicles that are targeted have been left unlocked, but in several out-of-town cases windows have been broken to obtain items left in plain sight," police said. To guard against prowlers, police are advising residents to keep cars locked. But more importantly, to remove enticing items from plain view — like electronics, including GPS devices, bags and cables. Car prowls have been an issue for months in the area. In one incident over the summer, 48 cars were broken into in Framingham. Sudbury police in August warned residents about cars being stolen after keys were left inside.
