Greater Boston's Sheffield Chamber Players Announces Winter Shows

NEWTON, MA — Sheffield Chamber Players, a nonprofit musical ensemble based in Greater Boston, has announced its upcoming holiday show and 2022 premiere of a new piece by rising African American composer Kevin Day. "A Holiday Toast," Sheffield's first in-person public holiday performance, will take place on Sunday, Dec. 19 at 5:30 p.m. at Lyman Estate in Waltham. The program will include a seasonal selection of familiar and lesser-known gems like Arcangelo Corelli's Christmas Concerto. Tickets can be purchased here and an on-demand stream will be available with a donation of any size. To kick off the new year, Sheffield will present "A Brand New Day" On Thursday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. at Lyman Estate. The show will include Day's "String Quartet No. 5" and works by Germaine Tailleferre and Robert Schumann. Following the public debut, the program will be performed at private and public locations through Feb. 13, 2022. To purchase tickets, click here. Founded in 2014 and featuring violinists Sasha Callahan and Megumi Stohs Lewis, cellist Leo Eguchi, violist Alexander Vavilov, and occasional guest artists, Sheffield believes in the importance of experiencing chamber music in the intimate settings in which it was written by bringing it right to people's living rooms. Day is one of several composers who have been chosen to participate in Sheffield's five-year commissioning project, during which the organization will present annual premiers by some of the country's prominent and rising composers. Other participants include Kenji Bunch, Osvaldo Golijov, and Jessie Montgomery.
