HERNDON, VA — Nine people were taken to the hospital for treatment following a two-alarm fire early Thursday night at a three-story Herndon apartment building, according to a post on the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department's official Twitter account. Tow of the people received life-threatening injuries. Fairfax County firefighters responded before 5:45 p.m. on Thursday for the report of a structure fire in the Town of Herndon. Arriving on the scene, firefighters observed fire showing from the upper floor of a three-story garden apartment in the 800 block of Park Avenue. A second alarm was issued. At 6:02 p.m., Fairfax County Fire & Rescue posted an update to Twitter. Most of the fire had been knocked down, as crews hit hot spots and checked for any extensions. Emergency personnel were reported evaluating five occupants. Fairfax County received assistance from the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Fire and Rescue Department and Loudoun County Fire and Rescue. UPDATE: bulk of fire knocked down.
