Here are the top stories today in Salt Lake City: According to documents retrieved by ProPublica, Utah lawmakers cut welfare spending and relied on the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to provide welfare services to those in need, even though to qualify for church assistance, some were asked to convert. But that's not all. The state also took partial credit for the value of those services offered, to the tune of $75 million (Salt Lake Tribune) Utahns celebrate Hanukkah with public menorahs and a parade in Salt Lake City. "We're excited to bring Utah's most active Hanukkah ever to our community, and invite the wider public to partake as well," Utah's Rabbi Avremi Zippel said in a press release.
