AUSTIN, TX — A 39-year-old man went missing after he barricaded himself inside an Austin apartment complex for several hours on Thursday.
Officer Jose Mendez, a spokesperson for the police department, said the incident began around 11:38 a.m. after police attempted to serve an aggravated robbery warrant for Victor Renae Machado at the 2000 block of E. 6th Street.
When police attempted to make contact with Machado, he refused to come out. Because he was noncompliant with officers, police escalated the call to a barricaded person and deployed their SWAT team, Mendez told reporters Thursday.

SWAT remained on scene as police continue to try to reach a "peaceful resolution," Mendez said. Authorities weren't able to make contact with Machado, who was believed to be inside an apartment unit.
The police spokesperson said SWAT deployed its robot and a distractionary device to get Machado out of the apartment unit. Police did not confirm if Machado was armed.
While authorities continued to de-escalate the situation, Mendez said E. 6th Street near Chacon and Robert Martinez Jr. Street was closed to traffic for several hours. Nearby apartments were also evacuated.
Police believed the incident was isolated and that there was no threat to the general public.
