Police Apprehend Second Suspect In New Brunswick Fatal Shooting

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — On Monday of this week, a man who was a suspect in a Nov. 7 fatal New Brunswick street shooting was apprehended by U.S. Marshals in Winter Haven, Florida. At 9:55 p.m. on Nov. 7, police responded to the area of Seaman Street and Remsen Avenue following a 911 call of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located one man, Rafael Florez-Lopez, 39, of New Brunswick, and another man with multiple gunshot wounds. Both men were transported to a nearby hospital where Florez-Lopez died of his injuries. Police later identified Jajuan Hill-Staten, 34, of Stock Bridge, Georgia, as the gunman, said the Middlesex County Prosecutor. The investigation also determined Quron Hoagland, 28, of North Brunswick, drove Hill-Staten to the area of the shooting and transported him from the area immediately afterwards. On November 12, Hoagland was taken into police custody and charged with one count of first-degree murder, among other charges. However, Hill-Staten remained at large and was considered a fugitive from justice until U.S. marshal's located him in Winter Haven, Florida this week. He was taken into custody Monday and charged with first-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder and second-degree possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose.
