Does having the flexibility of choosing your own schedule interest you? If you said yes, being a substitute teacher is for you! Substitute teachers are essential to the success of the Waukee Community School District. You will have the privilege of connecting with students and improving their education, while still having flexibility in your schedule. With your dedication, you can make a difference in the lives of our students, our staff, and our administration. In order to be a substitute teacher, you must be 21 or more years of age and have an associate's degree, a bachelor's degree, or 60 semester hours of credit from a regionally-accredited institution. An individual who has a paraeducator certificate without a degree is also eligible to become a substitute teacher. If this is you, you can fill out an application, complete the background check, and successfully take the Substitute Authorization Course. The next Substitute Authorization Course offered through Heartland AEA will take place in December. The class takes place during the dates and times listed below. You must attend all days and times to complete the course.
