WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA — Three of the six state-owned universities merging into two separate entities revealed their new logos on Thursday. The Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education in July opted to combine California, Clarion and Edinboro in the western part of the state and Bloomsburg, Lock Haven and Mansfield in the eastern portion. The integration of the universities begins in the fall 2022 semester. The system's board in October approved renaming the western schools Pennsylvania Western University but delayed a new moniker for the eastern ones. Penn-West went ahead with an online student survey to choose one of three proposed logos for the branch campuses. Dale-Elizabeth Pehrsson, current Clairion president and interim California and Edinboro president, said more than 5,000 students participated. The winning designs: The new logos will begin being used in the spring, although shirts and stickers were distributed Thursday to students of the three campuses. Attempts to determine when the three eastern schools will be formally renamed were not immediately successful. Pennsylvania Eastern or Pennsylvania Northeastern seemingly would be logical choices.
