Press release from the Clackamas County Government: 12/1/2021 The Milwaukie Center, operated by North Clackamas Parks and Recreation District (NCPRD), has formally changed its name to the Milwaukie Community Center to better represent its purpose and commitment to serving all residents of the district. The new name helps promote an inclusive, welcoming and vibrant space for all community members. The Board of County Commissioners, NCPRD staff and partners celebrated the name change with a sign unveiling ceremony on Nov. 29, 2021. The event also recognized name changes to the Center's two volunteer boards: Milwaukie Community Center Advisory Board and the Milwaukie Community Center Foundation. The process of changing the name began two years ago when the Center Community Advisory Board recommended and unanimously supported the idea. On Aug. 19, 2021, the Board of County Commissioners, acting as the Board of Directors for NCPRD, gave their final approval to change the name of the Milwaukie Center to the Milwaukie Community Center. The new name was also approved by the District Advisory committee, the Milwaukie City Council and the City of Milwaukie Parks and Recreation Board. The name may be new, but the Milwaukie Community Center's core values and services remain the same. The Center will continue to provide a wide range of senior-focused resources, social services such as Meals on Wheels, and recreational and enrichment programs for all ages. The Milwaukie Center was built in 1980 as a senior center on land within North Clackamas Park, and is owned by the City of Milwaukie. In 1992, the City of Milwaukie transferred operations to NCPRD.
