Description
BATAVIA, IL — Two Sugar Grove residents have been charged by Batavia police with harboring a runaway, a 16-year-old girl who went missing in Batavia on Nov. 16. She was found safely around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, officials announced.
Batavia police said they determined the Sugar Grove residents — a 16-year-old boy and a 55-year-old woman — "were involved in actively and knowingly giving shelter to a minor" for more than 48 hours without consent from the girl's parent or legal guardian.
The boy was charged with harboring a runaway and obstructing a peace officer, both class A misdemeanors. The woman, Julie A. Deuchler, of the 00 block of Rolling Oaks Road, was charged with harboring a runaway and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, a class 4 felony, according to police.
"Batavia Police would like to thank the public for the numerous tips that were reported over the past couple of weeks," police said in a statement. "Batavia Police would also like to thank the Sugar Grove Police Department for assistance in safely locating the juvenile."
