Teen and Tween Programs: With consideration for the ongoing pandemic, and for the safety of everyone involved, please take special note of the following: IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ! Teen Winter Break Reading Challenge December 1 – December 31 Registration on Beanstack required and begins December 1 The Teen Winter Break Reading Challenge is designed to be simple, low-stress, and fun! Complete activities to receive badges – there are a total of 20 different options. They can be completed in any order and they are "stackable," meaning it's possible to complete more than one activity at a time. If you complete at least 10 activity badges, you are eligible to receive a prize. Stop by the Youth Reference desk of the Dexter District Library during the month of January in order to redeem your prize. Have a safe and happy Winter Break!     Take & Make: No-Sew Felt Coffee Cozy Take & Make: No-Sew Felt Coffee Cozy December 3 through 9 Grades 5 – 12 Registration required, begins November 3 Teens and tweens can register for a take & make craft kit to pick up at the Library. No-sew felt coffee cozies are fun, reusable, and easy to customize. They make great gifts as well!   Magic the Gathering Friday, December 17 6 to 8:30 p.m. Grades 6 – 12 Registration required, begins November 20 Join us monthly for MTG tournament-style play on Friday evenings from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. Prizes awarded to top players. DIY Gift Wrap and Bows Monday, December 20 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Grades 5-12 Registration required, begins November 22 Want to make your holiday gifts extra special this year? Personalize your wrapping materials! Teens and tweens will make potato-stamped wrapping paper, recycled paper gift bows, and decorated gift tags.   Minute to Win It Monday, December 27 2 to 3 p.m. Grades 5-12 Registration required, begins November 29 Have some fast-paced fun with friends at the library! Test your skills with a series of 60-second games using everyday household items. They're more challenging than you might think! Can you handle the pressure? You have one minute to win it!   Tween Book Club Tuesday, December 28 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Grades 5 & 6 Book: Snapdragon by Kat Leyh Registration required, begins November 23 Read the book and then join us for icebreakers, discussion, and a related craft or activity. Get a copy of the book at the youth reference desk after you register.     January Writing Contest: 2021 in 6 Words Submissions accepted January 1-31 Grades 5-12 Teens and Tweens are invited to enter a writing contest with the theme "2021 in 6 Words." Reflect on the year that was and share it in a micro form. Submit your 6-word memoir to Teen/Tween Librarian Mollie to have your work posted in the Teen Zone and for a chance to win a prize.   Take & Make: Cake Squishies January 7 through 13 Grades 5 – 12 Registration required, begins December 6 Teens and tweens can register for a take & make craft kit to pick up at the Library. Make your own squeezable, squishable mini slice of cake. Customize it to look like your favorite cake flavor, then squish it and watch it rise back into shape.   Teen Book Club Tuesday, January 11 6 to 7 p.m. Grades 7 – 12 Book: Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo Registration required, begins December 1 Teens are invited to join our monthly book club. Read the book before the meeting, then join us for trivia and discussion. After you register, stop by the youth reference desk for a copy of the book.   A2 Magic Teen & Tween Workshop Monday, January 17 (no school) 3 to 4 p.m. Grades 5 – 12 Registration required, begins December 20 Teens and tweens in grades 5 through 12 are invited to discover their hidden potential through the fine art of magic. Get a copy of the book at the youth reference desk after you register.   Animal Care Education with Humane Society of Huron Valley Friday, January 28 (half day) 2 to 3 p.m. Grades 5 – 12 Registration required, begins December 20 Teens and tweens will hear a presentation from the Humane Society of Huron Valley detailing their history and what they do each day to help animals in our community. After the presentation, we'll make no-sew pet toys for our furry friends or to donate to HSHV.   February Take & Make: Pop-Up Cards February 4 through 10 Grades 5 – 12 Registration required, begins January 3 Teens and tweens can register for a take & make craft kit to pick up at the Library. Make pop-up cards for friends and family in a variety of designs, including a card that opens up into a bouquet of flowers.   Teen Book Club Tuesday, February 8 6 to 7 p.m. Grades 7 – 12 Book: Verify by Joelle Charbonneau Registration required, begins January 11 Teens are invited to join our monthly book club. Tape-resist art uses painters tape to make geometric designs on canvas.
