Johns Creek, Georgia– The Johns Creek Symphony Orchestra will continue its 15thanniversary season by celebrating the Most Wonderful Time of the Year with twoChristmas concerts this year, both on the same day, Saturday, December 18, 2021, atthe Johns Creek United Methodist Church, 11180 Medlock Bridge Road in Johns Creek.Johns Creek Symphony Orchestra cares about the health and welfare of our audience,volunteers, and musicians. We will continue to follow COVID-19 related governmentaland CDC guidelines. Masks are required for all persons (6 years old and up) and social distancing is highly recommended. A Kids' Christmas is a sensory-friendly holiday matinee concert for the whole family toenjoy together. A Kids' Christmas will feature favorite seasonal songs, sing-along,Santa, and more! The concert is perfect for families on the Autism spectrum, peoplewith Alzheimers, dementia, etc. It is a concert the WHOLE family can enjoy together.This performance will include a variety of fun seasonal favorites, including "Santa Clausis Comin' to Town"; "Frosty the Snowman"; and much more. Santa will be on-sitespreading holiday cheer and taking informal photos. The concert begins at 2:30 p.m. Christmas Pops, Johns Creek's annual holiday tradition, sponsored by FarmersInsurance – Stuart Perry Agency Johns Creek, continues later in the day at 7:30 p.m. This concert, conducted by Johns Creek Symphony Orchestra Music Director J. Wayne Baughman, will include holiday favorites consisting of a variety of seasonal, sacred, and secular music, including "Winter Storms"; "Silent Night"; "The First Noel"; "White Christmas"; "Sleigh Ride"; and much more. Guest artists include Johns Creek Chorale directed by Nathan Frank and resident Fox Theatre organist Ken Double. Double will play the vintage Aeolian-Skinner Organ nearly destroyed in the 9/11 attacks but was restored and found its new home at Johns Creek United Methodist Church. TICKETSA Kids' Christmas – Tickets are $25 for seniors; $20 for students; $15 for kids;Children 0 – 2 years old are free. These concerts are extremely popular, and patrons are strongly encouraged to purchase their tickets well in advance. J. Wayne BaughmanJCSO Music Director and Conductor J. Wayne Baughman studied choral and orchestralconducting, earning undergraduate and graduate degrees in music education from theUniversity of Alabama and advanced studies in conducting at the University ofMichigan. In 1974, Maestro Baughman immediately became involved with the Atlanta SymphonyOrchestra and Choruses upon his arrival in Atlanta. For 25 years, he was a frequentvocal soloist, chorus member, and rehearsal conductor under the guidance of the lateRobert Shaw. He was well known for his oratorio performances as a bass soloist. Hecollaborated with Maestro Shaw on numerous performance projects, including theMozart Requiem Mass, J.S. Bach's St. John Passion, and Handel's Messiah. In 1990,as bass soloist, Maestro Baughman shared the honor of a Grammy Award for theTelarc recording of Belshazzar's Feast (Walton) and Chichester Psalms (Bernstein) withRobert Shaw and the ASO. Maestro Baughman has held conducting positions at the State University of New Yorkat Cortland and Brevard Music Center. He also served as music director at PeachtreeChristian Church in Atlanta for nine years, where his performances of major choral-orchestral works received critical acclaim. Maestro Baughman is recently retired from liturgical music. Ken Double A former radio and television sportscaster who started taking organ lessons as an 8-year-old in Chicago, KEN DOUBLE has enjoyed a second career focused on his love ofthe music of the theatre pipe organ. As a sportscaster, Ken broadcast NBA and major college basketball, NHL, IHL and AHL hockey, the worldwide broadcast of the Indy 500, and more. He spent two years as the "Voice of the Atlanta Knights" hockey team from 1992-to-94.But since retiring from broadcasting in 2008, Ken has performed concerts on the greattheatre pipe organs around the world. He also helped establish the Long CenterTheatre Organ Society in Lafayette, Indiana; spent ten years as the President of theAmerican Theatre Organ Society; and currently is one of the two organists who performon Mighty Mo, the iconic 4/42 Möller pipe organ at the Atlanta Fox Theatre.Ken Double performed his first concert in 1978; has more than 20 recordings to hiscredit; has toured Australia and New Zealand 8 times; and in June of 2022 will celebratehis 40th annual concert at Long Center in Lafayette, IN, on the Wurlitzer organ hehelped create and install. Ken has been thrilled to not only perform many times on some of the greatest theatreorgans across the United States, but to also have the honor of assisting the chaptersand groups that stage the concerts in marketing the fundraising; enjoyed helping growthe ATOS Summer Youth Adventure, the camp-like event that has provided more than80 young people the opportunity to learn to play (including at least 6 new concert artistswho have grown from the program). He has also played a part in finding new homes fortheatre organs, thus introducing the art form to new audiences in many locations.Concert and recording artist, administrator, promoter and fundraiser, broadcaster andentertainer, Ken Double has enjoyed, as he says, "getting paid to have fun." In its fifteenth season, the Johns Creek Symphony Orchestra is metro Atlanta's only fully professional, part-time symphonic orchestra, consisting of professional musicians from all over the greater metro Atlanta area. The Johns Creek Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Founder and Music Director J. Wayne Baughman, provides musical enrichment for the community of Johns Creek through a three-concert series of performances and additional educational programs and special events each year.
