WORCESTER, MA — A Cherry Valley man charged with murder after a fatal November 2020 stabbing has been released on bail after the emergence of new evidence in the case, according to court records. A grand jury in June indicted Dana Gaul, 43, on a murder charge in the Nov. 24, 2020, stabbing of Jehlon Rose. But on Tuesday, Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. asked a judge to release Gaul on bail after Worcester police received "additional information suggesting another individual was responsible for the death." According to court records, an unidentified individual met with police on Nov. 10 and provided "exculpatory evidence" about Gaul's involvement in Rose's death. Worcester police later verified the evidence. Rose, 19, was stabbed during a fight on Nov. 24 along Water Street in the Kelley Square area. He suffered multiple wounds and died three days later at UMass Memorial's University Hospital, according to Early's office. Gaul will be required to wear a GPS device and will still have to report to a probation officer, according to court records. Following the indictment, he had been ordered held without bail.
