Happy Friday, people of Atlanta! Let's get you all caught up on what's happening locally to start today off on an informed note. First, today's weather: Sunny and warm. High: 74 Low: 49. Here are the top stories in Atlanta today: After a host of break-ins at storage facilities across metro Atlanta, security at similar businesses is in the spotlight. Jonathan Sirko, a former Gwinnett County police officer who now owns a private security firm, Sirko & Associates, said many storage facilities are "not as secured as you think they should be." Sirko's advice to customers in the market for a storage unit is to look for a "facility that has video surveillance, perimeter fencing, electronic access and a facility that uses security locks."(WSB Atlanta)Two Georgia election workers have filed a defamation lawsuit against a conservative website, accusing it of knowingly publishing and spreading false stories saying the workers engaged in ballot fraud during the 2020 general election. The lawsuit was filed Thursday by Fulton County elections workers Ruby Freeman and Wandrea "Shaye" Moss, a mother and daughter, against The Gateway Pundit, its owner Jim Hoft and his brother Joe Hoft, a contributor to the site. The lawsuit says, among other things, the website and the Hofts conducted a "campaign of lies" that led to online and in-person harassment against the two women. Filed in circuit court in St. Louis, where The Gateway Pundit is based, the lawsuit seeks compensatory and punitive damages, as well as legal costs. It also asks a judge to declare that the statements published by the website and the Hofts and referenced in the suit are false and to order the false and defamatory statements removed from any website or social media accounts they control.(WABE 90.1 FM)Believing logistics plays a larger role than lack of resources in ending hunger, Jasmine Crowe has started a company - Goodr - to help fill the gaps with pop-up pantries. "We really sit at the intersection of ending food waste and ending hunger,"Crowe said, explaining Goodr directly connects with companies to deliver their excess food to people in the community. She's particularly focused on putting resources in places where food pantries aren't plentiful via pop-up pantries. The concept has been so well received that Crowe is in talks to bring her pop-up pantries to other cities and towns across the country.
