WaTasha Barnes Griffin presents Masterclass: "Women on Life, Leadership, and Legacy.” WaTasha Barnes Griffin is Chief Executive Officer of YWCA Central Indiana. WaTasha has served women, children and community for more than 20 years. She is a community champion, advocate, educator and supporter. Her work centers on women’s empowerment, equity within communities of color and supportive services for individuals marginalized through a variety of systemic oppressions. WaTasha serves the broader community in ways that promote peace, collaboration, and equity for all. She is currently a member of the Muncie Community Schools Board of Trustees, member of the YWCA USA Public Policy and Advocacy Committee, League of Women voters, President of the Muncie Chapter of Indiana Black Expo, Inc., and member of the Martin Luther King Jr. Dream Team. She was named the 2018 Athena International Leadership Award Recipient for her commitment to social justice and advancing the lives of women and children. In February of 2018 WaTasha was presented with Senate Resolution Forty-Four by Senator Tim Lanane and the Indiana State Senate for her many contributions to Delaware and Madison Counties working to eliminate racism and empower women and children. She received the Muncie Pride Community Leadership and Ally Award, NAACP 2017 Community Service Award, and a nomination for the Athena Young Professional award. She’s been honored with numerous other awards including the Very Important Volunteer (VIVA) award from Muncie Rotary, and has been recognized with the Muncie City Council Community Service award, Human Rights Commission Appreciation award, the Prevent Child Abuse appreciation award, and the Vivian Z. Conley award honoring women who push for equality and empowerment of women and children. WaTasha Barnes Griffin is a certified family development specialist from the University of Iowa School of Social Work and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana Wesleyan University. She is currently pursuing a graduate degree in public administration from Purdue Global University West Lafayette. She is married to Elder Shoka J. Griffin Sr. and the mother of Shoka II and Sa’Niya Griffin. They reside on the eastside of Muncie, Indiana. Women in Business Unlimited is an organization dedicated to providing networking opportunities for business women of East Central Indiana. The overall goal of WIBU is to provide professional development programs to improve women’s business skills. Our programming provides opportunities for meaningful exchange to occur among business women in East Central Indiana. Our mission is to make a positive impact on local economic development and business climate, so that East Central Indiana improves as a place for women to conduct business.
