Entrepreneurial veteran, Larry Cates, takes the stage for a live Q&A on all things business, global franchising, & investing. Hailing from Kansas City, Larry has 40 years of professional business experience. In 1974, Larry’s corporate experience kicked off when he was hired as a brand manager for Hallmark Cards. A few years later, he was hired by PepsiCo as a Director of Marketing and moved up to spend 17 years abroad running the international franchise operations for PizzaHut, KFC, and Taco Bell across 65+ countries as Vice President and CEO. By 1997, he was recruited to Applebee’s as their President of the International Division and opened up 16 new countries with 10 more in the pipeline. In 2004, Larry started his post-corporate career when he made the inspired decision to move to Whitefish, MT! He established Cates Investments, LLC., an international consulting and investment company. As a consultant, board member, and investor, Larry has been and is currently involved with companies/organizations including (but not limited to) Au Bon Pain, Margaritas, Rundle Restoration, Neuro-ID, U-Seek, Land Lease America-KOA’s, Frontier Angels and Fund 2. Larry is a graduate of the University of Kansas, is married with three kids and 10 grandchildren. His passions include time with family and friends, business, travel, and outdoor recreation (hiking, cycling, and skiing).
