“I always loved painting as a kid, and I still do today. It's a way for me to escape from the ills of everyday life. It’s a form of therapy that has helped me understand myself and my own thoughts better than anything else. When I paint, I feel like I'm able to express myself without any boundaries or restraints,” says Brian DuPree Athens GA based artist. Paintings are meant to evoke emotion and tell stories through colors and shapes. They can be personal or universal, but they all have something profound to say about the artist. Through painting, Brian DuPree Athens GA based artist was able to look at his life from a different perspective and see how beautiful it was despite all its complexity. Here is how painting turned out to be one of the most important activities in Brian DuPree’s life! Why painting is important for me “Paints are a way for me to get away from the complexities of life. I can express myself with a different language and in a different way from other people. It's a form of therapy that helps me understand myself and my own thoughts better than anything else,” says the Athens Georgia artist. It took him about ten years to stop painting entirely, but by that time it was no longer as important to his life as it used to be. The only reason why Brian DuPree still paints is because it fills a void in his life. “It's like an emotional outlet for me – something I do when I need space to think without being judged or controlled by anyone else in my life,” says Brian DuPree. How I paint and what inspires me “I have always loved painting. I paint many different types of paintings, from landscapes to portraits and abstracts,” says Brian DuPree. “However, my favorite subject is still wildlife. The animals in my paintings remind me of the happiness I feel whenever I see them. Animals are the ones that inspire me the most and make me want to strive for more. I mean, who doesn't like looking at a beautiful bird or a majestic lion? With all its grace, beauty and power, these animals can actually carry you away from your everyday life into this world of wonder!” Benefits of Painting for Mental Health Painting is a creative outlet for many people. Whether you enjoy the act of painting or if you just think that it's an excellent way to calm down, Brian DuPree Athens GA based artist indicates that you can use painting as a way to burn energy, relieve stress, and even improve your mood. According to Brian DuPree, if you have any anxiety issues, painting may help alleviate some of those feelings by relieving tension, allowing you to focus on more positive things in life, such as your health and relaxation.
