NEW YORK CITY — Meisha Porter, the city's schools chancellor, will step down to serve as the head of a Bronx nonprofit.
Porter announced her plan during a Wednesday appearance on NY1.
"I love the Bronx, and so I'm so excited to announce here with my friends that I will be transitioning from the Department of Education but stepping up into the role as the founding, inaugural CEO of the Bronx Community Foundation," she told NY1's Pat Kiernan.
The school leadership shakeup isn't necessarily a surprise.
Mayor Bill de Blasio's term ends when 2022 dawns and mayor-elect Eric Adams is anticipated to appoint David Banks to become chancellor, Chalkbeat reported.
Porter came into the role after former chancellor Richard Carranza suddenly resigned in February.
