WILMINGTON, MA — Wilmington High School was nearly 80 percent vaccinated as of Nov. 17, Superintendent Glenn Brand told the School Committee. Both students and staff were 77 percent vaccinated, just short of the 80 percent threshold to request a waiver from the state mask mandate, Brand said. The middle school had further to go, with 80 percent of staff vaccinated but just 40 percent of students. Children 5- to 11-years-old were not eligible for the vaccine until Nov. 3. The district held a first dose vaccination clinic for 5- to 11-year-old students Nov. 19, with the second dose scheduled for Dec. 10. Three hundred students pre-registered, the max registration, Brand said. Brand will again update the School Committee on student health and safety Wednesday at their next meeting. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at Wilmington High School and will be streamed live on WCTV. Christopher Huffaker can be reached at 412-265-8353 or [email protected].
