NEW HAVEN, CT —A 17-year-old New Haven girl was killed in a single car crash on Sherman Avenue Tuesday night, police said. The teen was driving an Acura TSX when it "crashed off the road" between Harding Place and Ford Street around 8 p.m., according to New Haven police spokesperson Scott Shumway. Both the girl and her 18-year-old passenger were taken to Yale New Haven Hospital. There, the girl was pronounced deceased and her female passenger, also of New Haven, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The New Haven Police Crash Team responded to the scene and learned that the Acura was traveling on Sherman Avenue when it left the travel portion of the roadway and struck a tree. The crash remains under investigation. Police ask that any witnesses who have not yet spoken with the Police contact the New Haven Police Department Investigative Services Division at 203-946-6304.
