FRAMINGHAM, MA — Framingham marked its second straight week of triple-digit new coronavirus cases and notched a new fatality as the pandemic nears a new turning point with the emergence of the omicron variant. Coronavirus cases have been rising across Massachusetts in recent weeks, and health officials expect cases may rise even more following Thanksgiving gatherings. In Framingham, the city reported 118 new positive cases on Wednesday on top of the 123 cases noted on Nov. 24. Framingham hasn't had seen new cases in the triple-digits since March 29, when 101 residents tested positive. The number of active coronavirus cases in Framingham also rose, reaching 210 on Wednesday — 40 more than one week ago. Both the number of new daily cases and the positive test result rate also rose recently, according to city data. On the positive side, nearly 74 percent of Framingham residents have been fully vaccinated against the virus. Another 8,714 of the city's more than 72,000 residents are partially vaccinated.
