ASHBURN, VA — A 31-year-old man from Alexandria man was charged with use of profane, threatening, or indecent language over public airways after he was accused of threatening Stone Bridge High School on Tuesday.
The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office increased security at the school in response to the threat.
A staff member at Stone Bridge High School received a call around 10:45 a.m. The sheriff's office reported the caller used threatening language toward the school.
On Tuesday evening, the sheriff's office said investigators identified the man who made the phone call. After a consultation with the Loudoun Commonwealth's Attorney's Office, authorities charged Robert Ruiz with one misdemeanor charge of using profane, threatening, or indecent language over public airways.
The warrant was served on Wednesday with assistance from the Fairfax County Police Department.
After the threat was reported on Tuesday, school and police officials increased security on Stone Bridge High School's campus. School officials said the school was not placed into an official lockdown, and classes continued as normal.
However, entry into the building was restricted and additional deputies from the sheriff's office were present on campus as a precaution.
The sheriff's office did not specify the nature of the threats. They also did not say what could have inspired the threats.
The Loudoun County school system has been embroiled in controversy throughout the year. Stone Bridge High School has been brought into the spotlight after a sexual assault was reported in one of the school's bathrooms in May.
