ROCKVILLE, MD — A Maryland State Trooper is recovering in the hospital after being struck by a car while conducting a traffic stop in Rockville early Wednesday morning. Brian DeHaven was outside of his patrol vehicle — which had its emergency lights on, Maryland Police said — on the left shoulder of I-270 south at Exit 6, Route 28/West Montgomery Avenue in Rockville when he was hit. He had stopped a 2019 Kia and was in between the jersey wall and the driver's side of the Kia when a Toyota Venza swerved and hit both cars and the officer, according to Maryland Police. The driver of the Kia and Toyota were both uninjured. The driver of the Toyota Venza is Jose Ascencio, 44, of Germantown. Police said charges may be pressed, pending the outcome of the investigation.
