Description

WALNUT CREEK, CA — An East Bay District Attorney is sounding the alarm about a scam that may target your Walnut Creek or online bank account. Zelle is a digital payments service that is sometimes set up as part of your bank account. You may not even be aware of it. Scammers may try to drain your account by posing as your bank or lending institution. The Alameda County DA cautions that you should proceed with caution if you receive a text, email, or phone call from anyone inquiring about a Zelle transaction, even if it appears to be from your bank. Scammers may pretend to be investigating potential fraud on your account. If you receive such a message, protect yourself by taking steps to make sure the message is legitimate, such as by contacting your bank directly. Do not respond to the message and do not call any numbers provided in the message.
