SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — Santa Cruz County transportation officials are holding a virtual meeting Thursday to get input on how $11.2 million in state and federal funding should be spent for road, bicycle, pedestrian and transit improvements in the county. The Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission is responsible as the state-mandated agency for selecting projects to receive the transportation funds and issued a call for projects this summer, receiving 19 applications for projects around the county. A county staff report for Thursday's meeting outlines how the applications were evaluated and is inviting input on the proposed projects. Among the largest projects recommended to receive funds are pedestrian and bicycle improvements in downtown Watsonville for $1.2 million, $1 million for pavement, bicycle and pedestrian improvements on Chestnut Street and $600,000 for Ocean Street, both in Santa Cruz, $1 million for bus transit improvements, buffered bike lanes and other changes on areas of Soquel Avenue and Soquel Drive, and $1 million for two new Santa Cruz METRO buses.
