AUSTIN, TX — The holidays have officially arrived in the Austin Metro, which means it's time to celebrate the season with sparkling lights, holiday shows and more. Austin, Pflugerville, Round Rock, Cedar Park and Leander will be offering several holiday-themed events this weekend that will help you ring in the Christmas season. THINGS TO DO IN AUSTIN METRO DEC. 2-5Light Up The Lake in Round Rock The holidays are back in Round Rock. And to celebrate, the city is offering three amazing nights of holiday lights for the annual Light Up the Lake event.The three-day festival will kickoff at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 2 and will continue through Saturday, Dec. 4 at Old Settlers Park. RELATED: Round Rock's Light Up The Lake Event Slated For December Tree lighting and Santa's Wonderland in Cedar Park Cedar Park will host its annual tree lighting and Santa's Wonderland from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3 at Heritage Oak Park, 875 Quest Parkway. FOR THE KIDS: Create your own version of the Cedar Park Holiday Oak Tree with crayons, paints, or collage. If your entry is the winner among kindergarten and 1st grade kids, you'll get to pull the switch that lights the real Holiday Oak Tree on Dec. 3. Meet your local firefighters, fire station in Round RockThe Round Rock Fire Department wants to invite the community to visit their local stations during its city-wide Open House event on Saturday. Round Rock families will be able to learn about the department from local firefighters, tour the fire station and participate in activities for the whole family from 8 a.m. to noon. The free event will also welcome guests to take a tour of the fire house, sit in a fire truck and try on some of the firefighters' gear. Old Town Christmas Festival in Leander This year's festival is slated for kick off from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4. The festivities will include a 5K, parade, pictures with Santa Claus and more. The show will run at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 4-5, Dec. 10-12, Dec. 17-19 and Dec. 21-23 at the Long Center, 701 W Riverside Drive, in Austin. Tickets start at $35 and are available online. What to expect: Hundreds of dancers perform Stephen Mills' enchanting choreography to Pyotr Tchaikovsky's magical score with live accompaniment from Austin Symphony Orchestra. "A Christmas Carol" at Zach Theatre The beloved Christmas play will run throughout December and will continue through Sunday, Jan. 2 at The Topfer at ZACH on 202 South Lamar Street in Austin. Tickets start at $25. Student Rush Tickets are $18 one hour before show time (with valid ID). A limited amount of Pay–What–You–Will tickets are available the day of for Mainstage preview performances only. Peppermint Parkway This drive-thru holiday event was launched last year as a way to celebrate safely during the coronavirus pandemic. Music and millions of holiday lights are featured on the mile-long route.The event will run from Nov. 26 to Dec. 26. Tickets start at $35. For more information, visit Peppermint Parkway's website. Austin Trail of Lights This iconic holiday staple returns for its 57th year and second year as a drive-thru event to light up Zilker Park with over two million lights. Stay warm in your car and cruise through light displays of every shape and size. Open nightly from Nov. 27 through Dec. 31 (except Christmas Eve and Christmas Day), with a few fun theme nights.General admission vehicle passes are on sale for $30-$40. Pinkmas at Museum of Ice Cream The Museum of Ice Cream will present "Pinkmas" starting Nov. 18 and will continue through Jan. 9 at its Domain location. The magical immersive experience will feature festive drink specials at the cafe and a variety of celebratory activities. Tickets for the "Pinkmas" celebrations start at $44 and include holiday themed ice cream treats for guests to enjoy as they go through the experience. Add on the special "Pinkmas" bundle for $39 to stock up on limited edition retail items like a headband, piñata plushie, MOIC ticket pin, and a sprinkle bag. Limited tickets are available online. Give back: Any guests that bring a toy to be donated to Toys for Tots will receive a complimentary ice cream scoop at the cafe.
