AUSTIN, TX — Beto O' Rourke will make a stop in Austin to mark his gubernatorial campaign for Texas this weekend. The event is slated for 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4 at Republic Square Park, 422 Guadalupe Street in Austin. The stop is one of five the Democratic candidate will make over the weekend. Other stops include Dallas/Forth Worth, Harker Heights/Killeen and Sugar Land, according to O' Rourke's campaign website. Live in Austin? On Nov. 15, O'Rourke announced his run for Texas governor in a social media post, citing his reasons were due to failed leadership in the Lone Star State. Texas GOP chair Allen West will also run in the gubernatorial race, slated for Nov. 8, 2022. No other Democrats have entered the race or have flirted with challenging Abbott. Actor Matthew McConaughey, who lives in Austin, teased a run for governor for months, but ultimately decided to not put his hat in the race over the weekend.
