Press release from the City of Austin: November 29, 2021 Case: 21-3291062 Date: Thursday, November 25, 2021 Time: 9:42 p.m. Location: 50 Block of N. IH 35 (North Service Road) Deceased: George Michael Lopez, Hispanic male, 7/17/1991 The Austin Police Department (APD) has identified George Lopez as the victim of the homicide on November 25. On Thursday, November 25, 2021, at approximately 9:42 p.m., 9-1-1 received a call of a reckless driver, followed by a call about a crash involving that driver at the 50 blk. of N. IH-35. APD officers, along with Austin-Travis County EMS, arrived on the scene and discovered a man in the driver's seat with obvious trauma. Despite lifesaving measures, George Lopez succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at 10:05 p.m. by Dr. Ackrell. Homicide investigators and crime scene technicians responded to the scene to interview witnesses and process the scene. On November 26, 2021, the Travis County Medical Examiner's Office conducted an autopsy and determined the official cause of death as gunshot wound and the manner, homicide.
