AUSTIN, TX — A man found shot and killed on Interstate 35 service road in east Austin on Thanksgiving has been identified.
Police identified 30-year-old George Michael Lopez as the man who was found shot in the driver's seat of a car around 9:40 p.m. on Thursday.
Authorities were called to the 50 block of North I-35 northbound service road for a 911 call about a reckless driver. When officers arrived, they found Lopez with an apparent gunshot wound.

Despite life-saving measures, Lopez later died from his injuries. The following day, Travis County Medical Examiner's Office conducted an autopsy on Lopez and determined the official cause of death was a gunshot wound and ruled his death a homicide.
The incident marks the city's 85th homicide in 2021, police said.
