Here are the top stories today in Des Moines: Des Moines City Council members listened to comments from residents last night about the proposed redistricting maps for Iowa's capital city. The Council reviewed several ward maps proposed by city staff during their meeting, but would not review a map proposed by Polk County Auditor Jamie Fitzgerald, to the disappointment of residents who attended. There will be another public hearing prior to ordinance adoption, scheduled for Dec. 20. The city must submit all redistricting materials to the Secretary of State's Office by Jan. 3, 2022. (Local 5 - weareiowa.com) Yesterday was Giving Tuesday, and Des Moines metro nonprofits made the most of this charitable "holiday." Local organizations like Community Youth Concepts say the annual drive is helping make up for revenue lost due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The increase in donations also leads to increased awareness and volunteerism, all of which can ultimately help nonprofits advance their causes. (Local 5 - weareiowa.com) On Tuesday afternoon, Lovejoy Elementary School in Des Moines was placed on a temporary lockdown after reports of a shooting on SE 9th Street. No victims or injuries have been reported. (KCCI Des Moines) The Iowa Attorney General's Office has wrapped up a six-year project to address untested sexual assault evidence kits throughout the state. The project tested more than 1,600 previously untested sexual assault kits, which resulted in four criminal charges and two convictions.
