Injured Hiker Rescued Near Palm Desert

PALM DESERT, CA — A hiker sustained minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital in Palm Desert Tuesday. Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department received a report of the injured hiker at 9:54 a.m. Tuesday on the Art Smith Trailhead. Emergency responders hiked one-and-a-half miles up the trail and found the victim with a minor lower extremity injury. The victim was initially transported via a California Highway Patrol helicopter to a waiting ground ambulance, then taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The cause of the accident was under investigation.
