PENNSYLVANIA — Gov. Tom Wolf is keeping good again this year on a campaign promise he made when he ran for election to donate his entire government salary to charity. The governor said this week that he's giving his $201,729 annual salary for 2021 to Pennsylvania's State Employee Combined Appeal, which supports a wide range of charitable causes. "Every year, I donate my entire salary to Pennsylvania's annual state employee charitable giving campaign," Gov. Wolf said. "I'm #PAproud to join the state employees who together have donated more than $100 million to help people since 1977. On #GivingTuesday, I encourage all to support a cause." The move was not without its critics. The Libertarian Party of Allegheny Party responded directly to the governor's announcement, taking the opportunity to criticize Gov. Wolf's policies. "A much better approach vs. virtue signaling with your wealth would be for you to get the govt out of the way of private businesses and individuals so they can solve their own problems without govt handouts and its middle-men grifters," the Party shared in a social media post. Some one thousand charities participate in the Appeal, as part of nine larger umbrella organizations. Some beneficiaries include United Way, the PA Foundation, UNCF, and Earth Share. All told, the program raised $2.6 million in 2020.
