LEMONT, IL — Lemont resident Emily J.B. Christian recently celebrated a special milestone, as she turned 100 on Nov. 23. Christian celebrated her centennial birthday at the Lemont Township Community Center, and the township board will also honor her with a resolution at its next board meeting. The township said Christian was born in Chicago, and has lived in Lemont since the 1950s. She is a college graduate who was employed as a scientist at Argonne National Laboratory. Christian has been featured in local newspapers several times over the years for her jewelry making. According to the Lemont Center for the Arts, Christian has served as a commissioner for the Lemont Arts & Culture Commission since its inception in 2004. "Emily has been recognized over the years for her artistic contributions in jewelry making, jewelry design and teaching her skills," the center said on its Facebook page. "In addition to her artistic talents, she is a passionate advocate for the arts." Christian's jewelry is available as part of the center's holiday bazaar and gift shop.
