Winter outerwear is being accepted for donation now through December 25 at all Elgin fire stations. Coats and winter wear, collected on behalf of the Community Crisis Center, will be distributed to men, women and children at no cost throughout the cold weather season.
Items being collected:
Gently used coats, warm winter jackets, parkas and coats. Make sure they are clean and have no missing buttons or broken zippers. Gently used boots and snow pants. New gloves, mittens, hats and scarves (these items cannot be in used condition due to the pandemic). Contactless donations can be delivered to any of Elgin's seven fire stations. Residents may leave items at the front door, ring the doorbell or knock and firefighters will collect the items.
Fire station locations:
Station 1, 550 Summit St. Station 2, 650 Big Timber Rd. Station 3, 2455 Royal Blvd. Station 4, 599 S. McLean Blvd. Station 5, 804 Villa St. Station 6, 707 W. Chicago St. Station 7, 3270 Longcommon Pkwy. The Elgin Fire Department has worked with the Community Crisis Center for several years on this initiative. Collections are delivered to the Community Crisis Center on a weekly basis, typically carrying at least 10 bags of coats and winter wear.
