Here are the top stories in Raleigh today: A Raleigh bridal store partnered with a charity to give away wedding dresses to first responders, military members, health care workers, and other heroes. Brides Across America works with bridal retailers nationwide to donate gowns, and Savvi Formalwear & Bridal of Raleigh joined them on Monday to give an Air Force member a dress. (CBS17)On Tuesday night Wake County parents had the opportunity to voice their feedback on the reassignment proposal. 98% of students wouldn't be affected by the plan, but families of those who would have already organized protests and expressed anger toward the changes. (WRAL)The family of Lauren Kennedy Brady, owner of the Theatre Raleigh, were able to find a way home after concerns that they would be stuck in South Africa due to newly implemented travel restrictions. The family of four was able to secure flights home on two separate flights thanks to their travel agent monitoring vacancies. (CBS17)Dr. Mandy Cohen, the head of North Carolina's Department of Health and Human Services is stepping down. (Hickory Daily Record) Following the decision, Governor Roy Cooper has appointed Kody Kinsley to succeed Cohen on January 1, 2022. (WITN) The North Carolina Forest Service has issued a ban on all open burning and has canceled burning permits statewide as of 5:00 pm Monday. According to Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler, "It is fall wildfire season in NC and a statewide burn ban is necessary to reduce the risk of fires starting and spreading quickly."
