Aurora Man, 38, Dies After House Burns Down: Coroner

AURORA, IL — A 38-year-old man died after firefighters saved him from a burning multifamily house Sunday, according to the Kane County Coroner's Office. Officials at the coroner's office told Patch Marco A. Terrell's preliminary cause of death is smoke inhalation. A final determination is pending toxicology reports. Terrell was one of five people, some of whom were hanging out second-floor windows, pulled from a burning house on Jackson Street. The fire, according to the Aurora Fire Department, started around 6:12 a.m. Sunday. "He was a father and an amazing friend," wrote the organizer of a GoFundMe campaign started to help the eight people displaced. "Always willing to help. His life was cut short by this tragedy." While searching the house for people trapped, firefighters found Terrell unconscious and not breathing in the basement. He was taken outside to the driveway and treated there before an ambulance took him to the hospital in critical condition, Patch reported. RELATED: 5 People, Some Hanging From Windows, Rescued From Burning House Four other people pulled from the burning house — two 33- and 34-year-old men and two 14- and 15-year-old girls — suffered minor burns and smoke inhalation, according to officials. A police officer who rescued the residents was also taken to a hospital to be treated for minor smoke inhalation. The officer is back to work, according to reports from the Daily Herald.
