CHARLOTTE, NC — The foreclosure process for the Charlotte EpiCentre is ongoing, and many businesses have left the once iconic Charlotte entertainment area. The site was known for hosting huge events including the 2012 Democratic National Convention and NBA All-Star events galore. In recent years, the entertainment hub became marred with more reports of crime. A Charlotte Observer investigation found the Charlotte Epicentre had more violent crimes than any other commercial or residential location in the entire city. Notably, a fight in October 2019 led to stray gunfire killing a man, and police significantly ramped up their presence in the area. Crime, and then the pandemic, drastically harmed businesses in the EpiCentre. Now, according to the EpiCentre's website, the area has lost many of its tenants including anchors like Whiskey River, Howl at the Moon and Moe's Southwest Grill among half-a-dozen others. Here's a list of what's left: Epic Times JewelryFuji Hibachi and Teriyaki GrillFlemings SteakhouseMortimer's CafeRed Eye DinerBowleroTailored Smoke CVS, Novant Health, Skyview Dentistry, Seaport Global financial office and State Farm are the only businesses remaining. The property is in the process of foreclosure and that process should be complete by early spring according to the Observer. The center defaulted on an $85 million loan in June. Live in Charlotte?
