MARIETTA, GA — Unofficial Cobb County election results show candidate M. Carlyle Kent ousted incumbent Reggie Copeland for the Ward 5 seat on Marietta City Council. Copeland served as a councilman since 2018.
According to the unofficial results, Kent led with 368 votes compared to Copeland's 146 votes in the Tuesday runoff. A total of 514 voters cast their ballot in the runoff, for a roughly 8 percent voter turnout.
Kent and Copeland vied for the spot on city council after neither candidate managed to land a majority of the votes Nov. 2. A third candidate for the seat, Cristina Stallworth, did not make the cut for the runoff.
As of Nov. 24, the last day to early vote, 183 early and absentee votes were tallied in the runoff, unofficial results from Cobb County show — significantly lower than early and absentee voting the Nov. 2 general election, in which 305 people cast their ballot prior to Election Day.
In the general election, 820 people voted overall out of the eligible 6,355 voters, resulting in a 12.9 percent turnout. Only voters living in Ward 5 were eligible to vote in this race.
