DOUGLASVILLE, GA — A new multipurpose event arena will be built on the site of the old central office building for the Douglas County School System, which will be demolished later this month.
At the Nov. 1 board meeting, the school board approved the demolition of the old admin building on Highway 5, which will be replaced by the new event arena. Once the building is demolished, construction will begin on the $30 million, 6,000-seat multipurpose arena.
Demolition, which will cost roughly $300,000, is scheduled to start Dec. 13, Kwame Carr, assistant superintendent of district operations for DCSS, told the Douglas County Sentinel in an email.
The arena will be used for DCSS high school graduations, which are currently held about 40 minutes away at the University of West Georgia coliseum in Carrollton. It will also be used to host cheerleading competitions, athletic events, concerts and other community events, Carr told the Sentinel.
The new arena is set to be finished in early summer 2023.
