Community colleges are known for their associate degree programs, but many community colleges award more certificates than degrees. Certificates are the fastest-growing college credential that the federal government tracks. Jefferson State recognizes a niche need for COBOL, Python, and Data Analytics training in the information technology industry. To better address this need, the college developed fast-track training certificate programs with input from business and industry to upskill existing workers and/or provide training for those who desire an entry point into the IT industry. Funds requested will be used to provide training to better equip those wanting to enter the IT industry and/or advance their career by should familiarizing students with the necessary skills in Python and/or data analytics to meet the workforce needs associated with these skills.
