Dr. Umar Ifatunde holds a FREE power lecture and book signing for Black Parent Advocate. Certified School Psychologist, Dr. Umar Ifatunde, holds his first Washington D.C. lecture since Fall 2019. This FREE power lecture and book signing dives in on the special education attack. Black Parent Advocate: The Art of War for Dealing with America’s Public & Charter Schools is a 550 page manual for American Afrikan parents who need assistance understanding and navigating the world of regular and special education policy, process, and culture. Black Parent Advocate is divided into two parts, Correspondence & Documentation, and features chapters on homeschooling, meeting conduct, and modifying behavior without medication are also included. All seating is limited and first come/first served. The Waiting List may open at least 2 hours before the start of the event. We recommend arriving early to ensure attendance. Doors Open: 5pmLecture & Signing: 6pm to 10pmAbout Dr. Umar Ifatunde: Dr. Umar Johnson is a Doctor of Clinical Psychology and Certified School Psychologist who is considered an expert on the education and mental health of Afrikan and Afrikan-American children. Dr. Umar, as he is known to friends, is a paternal kinsman to both the Great Abolitionist Frederick Douglass (1818-1895) and the late Bishop Alexander Wayman (1821-1895), 7th Bishop of the AME Church, both from Maryland's Eastern Shore. Dr. Umar is founder and lead tour guide for the "Unapologetically Afrikan" Black College & Consciousness Tour for 11 thru 17-year-old boys & girls which exposes them to the great historical Black College tradition, within the context of visiting and learning about significant places and personalities that helped shaped the global Afrikan struggle for freedom and independence. This tour is held annually during the first two weeks of July. About the Organizer: Cedar United is a 501c3 non-profit that focuses is on educating and enlightening the Greater Washington DC area through exposure, mentoring, certifications, and classes like job readiness, banking, and life skills.
