*Applications accepted at www.gswcf.org/careers PURPOSE: The Camp Wildwood Barn Manager (CWBM) for Girl Scouts of West Central Florida is responsible for supervising, providing oversight, and ensuring the health and wellness of the GSWCF equine herd. The CWBM performs assigned duties for the purpose of ensuring a herd that meets the need of advancing GSWCF’s strategic goals around the equestrian program including serving and retaining current girl members, extending the Girl Scout brand to un-served and underserved populations, and ensuring achievement of sustainable revenue generation. The CWBM does their work under the direction of the Camp Ranger and in collaboration with the Camp Wildwood Outdoor Program Manager to ensure alignment of herd with program participant needs and to maximize the community partnership opportunities for the Equestrian Program. REPORTS TO: Wildwood Camp Ranger SUPERVISES: Barn Volunteers DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Program Quality and Growth • Trains and evaluates equestrian volunteers to ensure safety and progressive skill development for staff and members. • Works in tandem with Outdoor Program Management to ensure consistency in training and adherence to safety standards. • Collaborates as needed with program and fund development staff to develop partnerships and volunteer opportunities to expand programmatic impact for members. • Ensures consistent training and exercising of herd to foster positive equine behaviors and health for safe and quality riding experiences for girls and adults of varying sizes and weights. Operational Management and Oversight • Provides day to day care of horses to ensure a healthy and viable herd, including feeding, brushing, washing, watering, mucking stalls, etc. • Monitors and maintains equine health records, schedule appropriate appointments with farrier, veterinarian, and dentist as needed. • Oversees and ensures the overall maintenance and condition of the stable, paddocks, and riding rings • In concert with Camp Ranger and Outdoor Program team, ensures safety and risk management standards and practices are in place to comply with ACA Standards, Girl Scout Safety Activity Checkpoints, Volunteer Essentials, GSWCF Personnel Policies and federal, state and local regulations to mitigate risk & safeguard the health, safety and general well-being of all members. • Develops and manages execution of relevant departmental annual operating budgets and goals to include utilization of horse health data, researching trends, collaboration with veterinarian services, proposing strategies, for the achievement of financial and girl participation goals through customer-centric program experiences. • Manages and ensures deliverables of Weekday Equestrian volunteers, who serve as a resource for outdoor programs and properties and aid in the execution, delivery, and development of programs and projects. Administrative Functions • Proactively monitors and as needed orders replacement equipment and supplies, and replenishment of feed, hay, and supplements. • Complies with financial accountabilities associated with purchases and timely submission of receipts and credit card statements. General Expectations • Strictly adheres to the letter and spirit of all aforementioned policies and practices and promptly reports any known or alleged infractions. • Keeps supervisor informed on status and progress of work assigned. • Performs special assignments as directed by the supervisor and/or management. • Actively participates in council conferences and staff meetings. • Provides direct service to girls when volunteers/facilitators are not available. QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience • Experience in the care and management of a horse herd, facility maintenance, and a working knowledge of providing horse programs to inexperienced children. • Bachelor’s degree in animal science or related field preferred. • 3+ years of youth program/camp administration experience including supervision of staff & volunteer teams of 20 or more individuals strongly preferred. • Has or ability to obtain Certified Horsemanship Association certification or equivalent. • Has ability to obtain and maintain current certifications in CPR and First Aid. Skills and Abilities • Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple projects while managing conflicting priorities and deadlines. • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with the ability to identify and leverage relevant data to use in planning and decision-making. • Ability to understand, adapt to and interact with diverse people, teams, perspectives and cultures. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. • Excellent presentation and public speaking skills. • Comfortable working remotely, using video conferencing tools including Skype, Zoom, and Go-To-Meeting. • Proficient in using email, internet, and other PC-based applications including Microsoft Office suite with the ability to learn and adapt to new technology. Physical Requirements • Ability to work extended hours in a camp setting with daily exposure to sun, heat, and animals such as insects, snakes, bats, and horses, etc. • Ability to perform medium to heavy work exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, 20 lbs. of force frequently and 10 lbs. of force constantly to lift and move objects. • Prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, walking long distances, hiking, climbing, and stretching. • Hand eye-coordination and manual dexterity to utilize camp equipment. Other Requirements • Able to maintain a flexible work schedule, including overnights, weekends, and evenings. • Must have access to an automobile for travel within the jurisdiction, and proof of insurance and a safe driving record. • Must be a minimum of 25 years of age. • Knowledge and acceptance of beliefs and principles of the Girl Scout movement; willing to register as a member of Girl Scouts of the USA.
